Anuradhapura, the first capital of Sri Lanka, was founded in the 4th century BC and remains one of the country’s most historically significant cities. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it was a thriving center of Theravada Buddhism and is home to iconic landmarks such as the massive Ruwanwelisaya, Abhayagiriya, and Jetavanaramaya stupas, as well as the sacred Sri Maha Bodhi tree. A day tour of Anuradhapura offers visitors the chance to explore its rich heritage and well-preserved ruins, providing a glimpse into the grandeur of Sri Lanka’s ancient civilization.
