Sigiriya, often called the "Eighth Wonder of the World," is one of Sri Lanka’s most iconic and breathtaking historical sites. Located in the Central Province, this ancient rock fortress rises 200 meters above the surrounding plains, offering stunning views, fascinating history, and remarkable engineering marvels. Ancient Rock Fortress – Built by King Kashyapa in the 5th century, Sigiriya is a UNESCO World Heritage Site with a rich royal history. Sigiriya Frescoes – Beautifully preserved ancient paintings of celestial maidens, similar to the Ajanta cave paintings in India. Mirror Wall – A polished rock surface once covered in ancient inscriptions and poetry by visitors dating back over a thousand years. Lion’s Paws Entrance – The grand entrance to the fortress, featuring massive stone-carved lion paws. Stunning Views – After climbing approximately 1,200 steps, visitors are rewarded with panoramic views of lush forests, lakes, and villages. Nearby Attractions Pidurangala Rock – A lesser-known but equally impressive viewpoint offering an alternative hiking experience. Dambulla Cave Temple – A sacred Buddhist temple with ancient murals and over 150 statues of Buddha.
